How to Cope with the Loss of a Loved One

Senior Woman Reading Book With Drink At Home

Losing someone is the hardest feeling a person can ever feel most especially when this loss will last for a lifetime. We all experience grief in this journey and we all know that time is the best healer. However, it is the road towards healing that is painful.

Here are some ideas you can do when you are on that journey:

  • Attend the ceremonies Funerals, memorial services, and other rituals may sound depressing. But hear us out. Going to your loved one’s funeral can be your first step to healing. It is right then and there where you are saying that you accepted the happenings. Other than that, these gatherings can reconnect you with people who knew about your beloved. It will give you more memories and reassurance that many will remember them even after they are long gone. And furthermore, it would be nice to be with your loved one until he or she rejoins the earth.
  • Do not hold in your emotions Sometimes, we repress our emotions in order to appear strong and okay to the public. But when we are alone, we give in to these emotions and eventually break down. This is not healthy. If you feel like crying, cry. If you want to express your anger and frustrations, go ahead. Know that these emotions are only temporary. As we pointed out earlier, time will eventually mend you.
  • Share It is important that you share to people about what and how you feel after the departure. You can meet up with a friend or call a family member to recall and share important moments together. But if you do not feel like sharing, it is better to express yourself in your own ways.
  • Keep memories Photos, video recordings, and records, these may seem painful to watch when you know the person is already gone. But believe us when we say that you will eventually look for these to remember the good times. Better yet, you can create a tribute. Be creative as you go along the way. You can invite friends and family members in. In that way, you do not only remember the past but also cherish the present memories for the future ones that may follow.
